Fishing

The area has several excellent fishing spots from the river Thouet in the town to the Lac du Cebron . Temporary fishing permits are required but we can help with those.

Pescalis is about 30km away and is the largest fishing oriented centre in Europe, with over 100 hectares of lakes with a variety of specialist sites. It isn’t just for anglers as there is also an aquarium, parks, karting, bike hire, horse riding and other activities available. www.pescalis.com
As well as Pescalis there are several other pay and fish lakes in the area.

Golf

There are 6 pay and play courses of both 9 and 18 holes, within about an hours drive, of various levels of difficulty including one up to international standard. Although it isn’t always necessary to book in advance it is an idea to ensure your round. Please let us know if this is of interest to you and we will forward details of the clubs.

Expect to pay up to 50€ for a weekend 18 hole round in peak season.

Karting and Paintballing

Differing levels of standard, both indoor and outdoor, available at a number of sites and again if this of interest please let us know and we will forward details to you.

Airborne Activities

Hot air ballooning is available from several sites and in addition you can also have a go at paragliding, gliding and parachuting both solo and tandem.

Water Activities

Canoeing and kayaking are available on the River Thouet at Thouars and there is a windsurfing school on the Lac du Cebron.

Waterskiing, wakeboarding and other leisure activities, for example skateboarding and inline skating are available at the leisure centre in Moncontour about 20km away.

Horse Riding

There are several stables locally catering for different levels of ability, including ponies for children. According to your time of visit there may be racing at one of the local hippodromes, whilst the quality locally may not rival the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe a good time will be had by all.
There are also many other equine events taking place throughout the year, including show jumping and carriage driving.

If you fancy a slightly more sedate past-time involving a horse drawn vehicle there is a local company that hires out horse drawn caravans available for a day, a weekend or longer, providing an opportunity for you to explore the area without the pressures of modern day life. We can provide details for pre-booking if required.
